Encrypting OS drives

Seems very trivially unnecessary, but no; think again...

Lets take an example of your browser, it saves all your settings in a file, What if a hacker get access to complete installation directory. An and if you ask how could he possibly get access <Are you kidding me> , ever heard of 'live boot'
any-ways Its always better to be secure than falling into forensics after theft. So I think "why" is not important, important is "how?"
